Live from Glasgow's George Square on a night where the true Olympic spirit lives on. Around me here, and along the victory parade tens of thousands have been cheering the remarkable sportsmen and women who have given us a summer to remember. This is their chance to say thank-you to those who have supported them. This is also our chance to thank them for the legacy they leave - a legacy to build upon - as we look ahead to the Commonwealth Games in this city in just 2 years time. In other news; nearly half of all elderly residents in care homes are being given sedatives to make them easier to look after. That's according to a controversial new report by a Scottish university, which also says many people may be taking the drugs for much longer than necessary. Meanwhile; the high court in Glasgow has heard how a man kicked and jumped on his neighbour's head at least 20 times and left him brain damaged. And; a senior police officer has warned of the growing challenges and risks facing credit unions from organised crime gangs. A conference in Glasgow heard that the co-operatives which lend to low income households are potential targets for criminals laundering money. Staff are being given training to help them to identify potential illegal transactions. Also in sport, Thomas Rogne has been fined by manager Neil Lennon for comments he made about a new contract while on international duty with Norway. Better news for Celtic is that Scott Brown makes his return from injury against St Johnstone tomorrow. This international version of STV News at Six is viewable world-wide. It has been edited for rights reasons, which also allows us to keep the programme online after the initial 24-hour broadcast window in the UK has passed. Viewers within the UK who want to watch the full episode 'as broadcast' should select the UK version of the programme.
