Show

Andy Murray is just hours away from turning his Olympic gold into Grand slam glory as he enters battle with Novak Djokovic in the US Open Final. In just three hours time he'll take to the court in New York hoping to become the first British man for seventy six years to lift the US Open trophy. In other news; Andy Murray's fellow Olympic team-mates received a rousing heroes welcome in London this afternoon. Thousands lined the streets to honour a golden generation of Olympians and paralympians. Among them the Scots who made this year's Games one to remember. Meanwhile; the Department of Transport did not follow its own rules when it decided that FirstGroup should replace Virgin as the operator of the West Coast Main line. Westminster's Transport Committee was told this afternoon by Virgin Chairman Sir Richard Branson that First Group submitted a risky bid which undermines the interests of commuters. In local news; Police are investigating the rape of a young woman outside a Glasgow library. The 22-year-old was attacked close to Cardonald Library in Mosspark Drive in the early hours of yesterday morning. Officers had cordoned off the council-run building on Sunday but it was re-opened today. Also in sport; First tonight tennis, and as you saw earlier, Andy Murray is on the verge of history in New York tonight - the man from Dunblane takes on Novak Djokovic in the final of the US Open in less than 3 hours time - as he aims to win his first ever Grand Slam.
