The First Minister branded it historic. The Opposition slammed it as a wasted opportunity. Today the Scottish Government revealed the package of bills which they will bring forward over the next year. Among them is the proposed legislation which could pave the way for an independent Scotland and legalise same sex marriage. The Prime Minister David Cameron has announced the first shake up of his cabinet in a move some commentators say is as an attempt to put new vigour into the coalition. In other news, benefit delays, redundancy and falling incomes are forcing increasing numbers of Scots to turn to charitable food parcels to feed themselves and their families. And finally in sport, the uncapped Paul Dixon is set to make his Scotland debut in Saturday's opening World Cup Qualifier against Serbia. The Huddersfield left back was today called into Craig Levein's squad alongside MK Dons defender Gary MacKenzie. This international version of STV News at Six is viewable world-wide. It has been edited for rights reasons, which also allows us to keep the programme online after the initial 24-hour broadcast window in the UK has passed. Viewers within the UK who want to watch the full episode 'as broadcast' should select the UK version of the programme.
