Patients face a "post code lottery" in gaining acess to their GPs. That's the claim from a think tank who want to see doctors offering more weekend and evening appointments. Reform Scotland also say patients should have a greater choice of GPs surgeries. But the BMA has criticised the report saying the group don't understand the reality of a GPs work. In other news; the survival of a group of pilot whales which were rescued from the Fife coast yesterday is still uncertain amid reports they are still close to the scene of the mass stranding. 17 died yesterday and an 18th whale died after stranding itself near Edinburgh this morning. The rest of the whales still appear to be in the Firth of Forth rather than the comparative safety of the North Sea. The operation to remove the dead whales from the beach at Pittenweem has led to some distressing scenes. And in sport; Allan McGregor has declared himself fit for Saturday's opening World Cup qualifier against Serbia at Hampden. The Scotland number 1 was expected to miss this week's double header after injuring his groin in last month's friendly win over Australia. While the Besiktas goalkeeper will take a painkilling injection to play, Craig Levein has injury concerns in the full back area. This international version of STV News at Six is viewable world-wide. It has been edited for rights reasons, which also allows us to keep the programme online after the initial 24-hour broadcast window in the UK has passed. Viewers within the UK who want to watch the full episode 'as broadcast' should select the UK version of the programme.
