A former SPL footballer has been jailed for nine years for running a drugs factory in Edinburgh. Kris Brown was caught during a raid on the house in Sighthill area of the city. Detectives found heroin worth almost two million pounds. At the time it was biggest seizure of drugs ever made by Lothian and Borders police. In other news; the son of an elderly woman battered to death in her Perthshire home has denied having anything to do with the killing. Accused William Kean is blaming David Methven for Jenny Methven's murder. Mr Methven has admitted lying to the police about having £150,000 in the Forteviot cottage, but denies being a drug dealer and money lender. And; the deaths of three asylum seekers who apparently leapt from a tower block more than two years ago will not be the subject of a fatal accident inquiry. The Crown Office has concluded that it is "not in the public interest" to hold such an examination of the deaths of Serguei Serykh, his wife Tatiana, and his 19-year-old stepson Stepan. They are said to have been told their accommodation in Glasgow was to be withdrawn on the day they died. Also in sport; Neil Lennon has heaped praise on his players after Celtic moved closer to the riches of the champions league group stages. The 2 nil win over Helsinki last night saw them comfortably through to the play-off round. If Celtic win that tie, they are through to the lucrative part of the competition.
