Students across Scotland have received their exam results - with record numbers passing Highers. An increased number of pupils also passed Advanced Highers and Standard Grades. The rise means that more students will gain entry to their first-choice college or university. The Scottish Qualifications Authority say the improved results are all down to hard work. In other news, the jury at a murder trial has seen shocking video footage of the elderly victim lying dead in the kitchen of her Perthshire home. It is alleged 80 year-old Jenny Methven was bludgeoned to death by 46 year-old William Kean in Forteviot in February. He has blamed Mrs Methven's son for the killing. He also denies cutting his hands to prevent police taking his fingerprints. Sir Chris Hoy has secured his place as Britain's greatest ever Olympian after winning the sixth gold medal of his career. The cyclist from Edinburgh won the keirin event in the last few minutes. It's his second triumph at the London Games. And finally in sport, Neil Lennon says MJK Helsinki's artificial pitch gives the Finnish side an advantage, but Celtic won't use this as an excuse. Lennon's side has a 2-1 advantage going into tomorrow's second leg in their champions’ league qualifier. The Parkhead boss will give Scott Brown and James Forrest until training tonight to prove their fitness. This international version of STV News at Six is viewable world-wide.
