It appears SFL clubs are preparing to vote against Rangers playing in the first division next season. More of them have today declared their intentions ahead of the application being discussed at Hampden tomorrow. STV News understands a majority are preparing to defy pressure from the SFA, which wants the Ibrox side in division one. In other news; Scotland's bleak mid-summer is having a definite effect on consumer spending. Persistent rain has kept shoppers at home with retailers saying they're suffering. And economic forecasters are at odds over whether we will follow the rest of the UK into recession in the coming months. And in sport; Scott Brown reckons Dundee United and St Johnstone will be Celtic's title challengers this season. The Parkhead skipper admits the season will be different without Rangers in the top flight, but believes Peter Houston side will emerge as the main contenders and says the Saints will also be up there as they have a strong squad. This international version of STV News at Six is viewable world-wide. It has been edited for rights reasons, which also allows us to keep the programme online after the initial 24-hour broadcast window in the UK has passed. Viewers within the UK who want to watch the full episode 'as broadcast' should select the UK version of the programme.
