The Duke of Edinburgh has been taken to hospital. Buckingham Palace confirmed Prince Philip had been taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary this afternoon. He had been staying at the Royal family's Scottish retreat, Balmoral, with the Queen. The capital has missed out on hosting the homecoming parade for Scotland's Olympians and Para-lympians. Instead it's set to take place in the west next month. Officials say Glasgow is the obvious choice as it will be hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2014. But the Lord Provost of Edinburgh says he's disappointed with the decision. In other news, Virgin Rail has lost out in its bid to retain the West Coast Mainline service. Rivals First Group will start running Britain's busiest train line from December. The Aberdeen-based company has pledged new high-speed trains on the Birmingham to Glasgow route and more direct services between destinations. Experts say its a high risk decision by the Westminster Government. And finally in sport, Rangers are embroiled in a fresh dispute over a debt owed from the Ibrox club to Dundee United. Rangers insist they have a written agreement that the 31,000 pounds would be paid by the league from funds withheld from them last season.
