The Halls factory in West Lothian, which employs seventeen-hundred people, could be forced to close in an attempt to stem huge losses. The Broxburn plant, which processes Scottish pork, told staff the devastating news this lunchtime. Dutch firm, Vion, which owns the factory, said it was beginning a ninety-day consultation exercise with unions and workers. In other news; Scotlands historic battalions have survived relatively unscathed in the latest round of defence cuts announced today. English troops however have been hit hard. The decision has caused anger among MPs down south with one branding it "a grubby deal to appease Scotland" ahead of the independence referendum. And in sport; Hearts opened the doors to their pre-season training today. New boss John McGlynn's first session in front of the media was held at the Spartans ground. His new number two Edgaras Jankauskas was among the faces returning to the club. John Sutton and Dylan McGowan are also back following loan spells in Australia. Despite reports to the contrary former Hearts keeper Craig Gordon wasn't there today. Livingston trialist Rory Boulding too, missed the session. This episode has been edited for rights reasons.
