Juries in murder trials could be told about the accused's previous convictions, under radical plans being put forward for a change in the Scottish legal system. The Scottish Law Commission is recommending the move but critics fear it puts at risk the presumption of innocent until proven guilty. In other news: A man who judges ruled was not a danger to society has been sentenced to life in prison for the rape of three women and the assault of two young girls; The former Labour Home Secretary Lord John Reid has told the Leveson Inquiry that he was in the dark about the initial police investigation into phone hacking at the News of the World. Former Hearts midfielder Ian Black has told STV he had to rely on 'mental strength' to get through some of the darker days at Tynecastle. He's a free agent and on the look out for a new club after being released by Hearts at the end of the season. The midfielder will under go a hernia operation next week and while he's yet to pin down a club, he says he's open to offers within the SPL or south of the border. This international version of STV News at Six is viewable world-wide. It has been edited for rights reasons, which also allows us to keep the programme online after the initial 24-hour broadcast window in the UK has passed. Viewers within the UK who want to watch the full episode 'as broadcast' should select the UK version of the programme.
