Three police officers have been hailed as heroes after rescuing a woman from a fire in Midlothian. The officers arrived at the blaze in Buccleuch Street in Dalkeith before the fire brigade and helped the fifty-year-old out of the block of flats. The woman is still being treated in hospital. Ten other people were evacuated from the building. Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempted armed robbery at a newsagents in East Lothian. A man threatened a female shop assistant with a knife at the RS McColl Store in Musselburgh's Delta Drive just before 10 o'clock on Monday night. He demanded she hand over money but when she refused, he tried to force the till open. He eventually fled empty handed. Edinburgh Council's licensing board has refused all applications for extended opening hours for pubs on the day of the Scottish Cup Final. The decision was taken following concerns raised by both Lothian and Borders and Strathclyde Police. A spokesman for the council said the safety of all fans in the city was their main concern.
