The SNP and the Labour party are celebrating tonight after making considerable gains in the local council elections. The liberal democrats and the Tories saw their vote collapse. In other news; Two councillors, who are not members of Labour or the SNP, will hold the balance of power in Midlothian. The main parties tied with eight councillors each, so the council's first Green party member and a newly-elected independent, will decide which policies get the go-ahead. And in sport; Hearts midfielder Ian Black has ruled himself out of a possible Scotland call up for the friendly against USA at the end of the month. The 27 year old will undergo a hernia operation as he seeks a new club after being told he wont be offered a new contract at Tynecastle. This episode has been edited for rights reasons.
