Efforts to tackle sectarian singing at football matches appear to be working, according to the Scottish Government, after new laws were passed giving police more powers to tackle the problem. Although the legislation is yet to come into force, they say there's been a noticeable decline in religious chanting. The first real test will come tonight with this evening's Old firm Derby. In other news; Winds of up to 90 miles per hour are battering large parts of Scotland tonight, causing travel disruption on roads and rail. Strong winds in the West damaged buildings and the Tay Bridge was forced to close. Restrictions have been imposed on the Forth Bridge and Caledonian MacBrayne had to cancel 20 ferry crossings. The weather warnings will stay in place until midnight. the weather has taken its toll on another of the SPL fixtures this evening. The match between Motherwell and Dunfermline has been postponed due to significant structural damage at Fir Park. This is an international version of the news that may be edited for rights reasons.
