The former editor of the News of the World in Scotland has been arrested and charged over his alleged conduct around the time of the Tommy Sheridan defamation case six years ago. Bob Bird has been accused of attempting to pervert the course of justice. Mr Bird protested his innocence and said he was "sad it has come to this." David Cowan has more. In other news; No more awards for just doing your job. That was the message today from a group of MPs who want to overhaul the honours system. They claim too many civil servants and celebrities are scooping everything from MBE's to knighthoods. They also say Scotland is getting too many awards for its size. But the government maintain the vast majority of awards go to community heroes. In local news; A rapist who pounced on a woman in view of her nine year old son has been jailed for five years. Graham Brown attacked the victim at a house in Coupar Angus last July. He appeared at the High Court in Glasgow today after being convicted at an earlier trial. The traumatised youngster told a jury he'd seen his mother being pinned down. And; The operators of Scotland's first waste to energy plant are planning for a long term future despite making half its workforce redundant. They're aiming to significantly upgrade Dundee's municipal incinerator to allow it to handle the area's refuse disposal over the next twenty years. Also in sport; Inverness have entered into a partnership that could see Arsenal's top young prospects arrive at the club. The loan agreement will give the Gunners prospects some valuable first team experience. This international version of STV News at Six is viewable world-wide.
