A pensioner has been describing his lucky escape after a freak wave tossed him into the Atlantic from his small yacht. 71 year old Gerry Beard was washed overboard off the Butt of Lewis - amazingly the next wave flung him back onto the vessel. In other news; both sides in the independence referendum debate have taken heart from some of the findings in the annual British Social Attitudes survey. It shows that Alex Salmond faces tough challenges if he's to win the key vote in 2014. The publication also charts multiple concerns among voters worried about falling living standards. And in sport; Steven Fletcher says he's frustrated he isn't part of Scotland's world cup campaign, but isn’t expecting a recall. The Sunderland striker hasn't represented his country for over 19 months following a stand-off with Craig Levein. He's hinted he'd like to return, but the SFA say it's unlikely. This international version of STV News at Six is viewable world-wide. It has been edited for rights reasons, which also allows us to keep the programme online after the initial 24-hour broadcast window in the UK has passed. Viewers within the UK who want to watch the full episode 'as broadcast' should select the UK version of the programme.
