Scotland's canoeists are walking on water tonight after Aberdeen paddlers powered their way to Olympic Gold and Silver medals for Team GB. Tim Baillie and David Florence won their place in Olympic history with their canoeing partners in a nail biting C2 final at Lee Valley, sparking scenes of celebration. Ferry workers are threatening strike action over fears for their pay and conditions, if state owned ferry services are privatised. The government is preparing to put routes operated by Caledonian MacBrayne out to tender. The RMT union is worried private companies will 'cherry pick' the busiest services. To other news and Scotland's population has hit an all time high and now stands at just over 5 million. In the last decade, the population has expanded by almost two hundred thousand. The Registrar General for Scotland said the increase was down to more births than actual deaths, and that more people had moved here. In sport, Dundee United get their Europa League campaign underway against Dinamo Moscow at Tannadice tonight.
