History's been made at the Olympics as Heather Stanning won Britain's first ever gold medal in the women's rowing. Alongside her partner Helen Glover, the 27 year old from Lossiemouth also won Team GB's FIRST gold of the games. Later tonight, it might get even better as Michael Jamieson from Glasgow swims in the 200 metres breaststroke. If he wins, he'll be the first Scotsman to take a gold in the pool in nearly 40 years. Three men have died and a fourth has been airlifted to hospital after a multiple car crash in Cumbernauld. The road is closed in both directions while emergency services deal with the accident. Strathclyde Police say they're trying to establish the cause of the crash. In other news, a new law making it harder for councils or housing associations to evict tenants who don't pay their rent has come into force. Social landlords now have to offer advice on benefits, and make efforts to work out a repayment plan, before they can consider eviction. In sport, Aberdeen newboy Gary Naysmith says his desire to play football is as strong as it ever has been. The thirty three year old Scotland international was speaking after becoming the Dons third Summer signing. This international version of STV News at Six is viewable world-wide.
