It's the CITY of Perth. 'The Fair City' was one of 25 towns across the UK bidding for the status as part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations. The widely anticipated announcement that Perth had been chosen makes the town Scotland's seventh city. Civic leaders say it heralds the start of a year of celebrations. In other news; Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon has urged all politicians to back minimum pricing for alcohol, saying decisive action must be taken to "stem the flow of cheap high-strength drink". She spoke out as Parliament debated Scottish Government proposals to bring in a minimum price per unit for alcohol.
