A drug addict who battered an 84 year old great-grandmother after breaking into her house in Dundee has been jailed for five and a half years. Jason Forrest launched what was described as a "cowardly and vicious" attack on Cathie Henderson last September. The pensioner says the sentence is too short, and her life has never been the same again. In other news; A Iraq war veteran has started an appeal against his conviction for murdering a waiter in Orkney more than 17 years ago. Michael Ross was found guilty of shooting Shamsuddin Mahmood after a trial in 2008. Today his lawyers claimed he'd been the victim of a miscarriage of justice. And in sport; Sixty Seven times capped Scotland star Dan Parks has quit international rugby. He says now's the right time to leave to make way for emerging talent. This is an international version of the news that may have been edited for rights reasons.
