The Chairman of the Royal Bank of Scotland Sir Philip Hampton has launched a strong defence of the way in which he handled the bonus which was eventually rejected by Chief Executive Stephen Hester. He acknowledged excessive remuneration needed to be 'corrected' but could not rule out substantial bonuses for other RBS personnel, a move that would put him on a collision course with Parliament.
