A High Court judge has recommended that the need for corroboration in Scottish criminal prosecutions should be abolished. Lord Carloway said the current rule which means there must be two sources of incriminating evidence is "archaic" and has "no place in a modern legal system". The proposal comes following a year-long independent review, aimed at overhauling Scots criminal law. In other news; The mother of a toddler who died in a crash on the outskirts of Aberdeen yesterday is fighting for her life in hospital. Her sixteen month old son was named today as Callum Bruce - he was taken to hospital after the collision but medics were unable to save him. Police inquiries into the tragedy are continuing. And in sport; Aberdeen striker Mohammed Chalali is pushing for a start against Motherwell this weekend after scoring twice on International duty for Algeria's Olympic team. This is an international version of the news that may have been edited for rights reasons.
