Today marks the tenth anniversary of the war in Afghanistan. Dozens of Scots troops have died, among thousands of military personnel and civilians killed in a conflict that was never supposed to last this long. In other news: angry campaigners have been lobbying fuel providers in the Western Isles over rising prices; the family of a Thurso man recovering in a Singapore hospital following a motorbike crash have raised enough money to fly him home ; the First Minister may move into a new official residence which could be "more cost effective". In sport: after being ruled out, Scotland skipper Darren Fletcher could now play in Liechtenstein tomorrow. This is an international version of the news that may have been edited for rights reasons.
